Anyone else using banners to guide users through onboarding?

Hi. I'm currently setting up an onboarding experience by using banners for each step. Building it with Series was super simple, but as with Product Tours, the real experience is clumsy and laggy. For example, banners are not updated after success events have been triggered, displaying banners is sometimes delayed and sometimes needs a refresh, which is much to ask from a single-page application.

 

Has anyone else tried this approach before? Any ideas on how to make it more seamless?
